“Tok is a remarkable man, strong and a very talented artisan, with great personal dignity.” — Arthur Denison
Tok Timbu is the Master of Metals (chief craftsman) of the factory town of Volcaneum.
Background[]
Tok Timbu was born in 1798.[1] Timbu is "four mothers African", his ancestors having arrived in Dinotopia as dolphinbacks four generations prior, and he is descended from a Yoruba king.[2] Timbu has two sons, both somewhat older in age than Will Denison.[2]
Timbu lives in Pumice Town[1] and is the chief craftsman of Volcaneum.[2] His formal title is "Master of Metals".[3] As the chief craftsman of the factory town, Timbu is the most important human in Volcaneum.[4]
Biography[]
River Quest[]
In the summer of 1858, Timbu met with Magnolia, apprentice to the Habitat Partner Edwick. Edwick had been injured by a geyser and was being taken care of in a village near Volcaneum. Timbu was present when Edwick appointed Magnolia as the new Habitat Partner of Freshwater. Timbu sent word through the crystal beacons so that all of Dinotopia would know that they had new Habitat Partners.[5] As their first mission, Magnolia and her partner Paddlefoot were later entrusted to save the dried up Polongo River. Timbu received a message by the Dimorphodon Bippa, called upon by Magnolia to send all of the local Triceratopses and Brachiosauruses to the Polongo. Realizing the situation was serious, Timbu rang the great bell in Volcaneum to summon the dinosaurs.[6] The dinosaurs gathered by Timbu at Volcaneum and by Norah in Treetown succeeded in helping to save the river.[7]
Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time[]
In December 1862 or January 1863, Timbu met the dolphinbacks Arthur and Will Denison. Although skeptical of them due to having arriving at Volcaneum together with Lee Crabb, Timbu was convinced by Arthur of their good intentions. Timbu provided the Denisons with temporary housing in a guest cottage and the two dined together with Timbu and his family. With Arthur's permission, Timbu also put Will to work in Volcaneum, tending to the needs of its dinosaur-human teams and learning of its machines.[2] Shortly before the Denisons left Volcaneum, Timbu introduced them to Bix, who became their guide on their later journey to Waterfall City.[8]
Dinotopia: CD-ROM Adventure Game[]
In 1878, Timbu met the dolphinback Nathan Drake in Pumice Town. Timbu kindly offered to let Nathan use his forge. Timbu also told Nathan that Nathan's sister, Constance (who Nathan was searching for), had recently passed through town.[3] When Nathan later returned to Pumice Town, Timbu helped him forge a gramophone.[9]
