Parasaurolophus is a type of hadrosaurian dinosaur present in Dinotopia. In the outside world, Parasaurolophus originally lived in North America during the Late Cretaceous Period.

Parasaurolophus is large in size, standing nearly twenty feet (six meters) tall and reaching lengths of thirty feet (9.14 meters). They have a body shape similar to huge teardrops, very strong legs, and well-developed forearms and hands.
Parasaurolophuses are distinguishable by their vaguely tube-formed crest, which can be up to three feet (one meter) long. The crest runs from the bridge of their nose and arcs cleanly behind and outward from the standard curve of their skulls, before ending in a bulbous shape. The entire structure is supported by, and connected to, the head through bony ridges.
Every Parasaurolophus individual has a unique color scheme; some have vibrant colors whereas others are dull. Some Parasaurolophuses are countershaded, with a white underside, green upper side, and red crests. Others have a grayish green underside and dark red upper side or a white underside and blue upper side. Some Parasaurolophuses are purple in color, with pinkish stripes, predominantly yellow heads, and gray crests. Some are covered in mottled brown splotches and have maroon-colored crests. There are also Parasaurolophuses with white undersides, and purple and pink upper sides.
Culture[]
Using their crests, Parasaurolophuses can produce magnificent sounds. Many of the melodies they can produce cannot be heard by human ears but can be heard for miles around by other dinosaurs.
In order to form romantic relationships, Parasaurolophuses engage in a ritual where males gather in groups to serenade a single female. During these rituals, one male sings at a time, standing up and facing the female (who is also standing up). The other males sit in a ring around them waiting for their turn, often using stones or other objects to rest in the meantime.
