"26, that's what I'm gonna call her. Happy?"

The subject of this article or section is only canon to the (2002) miniseries adaption and (2002-2003) TV series that followed, and should not be confused for information regarding the wider Dinotopia canon.

26 is a Chasmosaurus (pronounced Chasmeasaur in the miniseries) whom Karl Scott is partnered with. 26 is very much a miracle. While her mother was giving birth, a group of Tyrannosaurus rex stormed through the village, trampling her mother to death. 26 is the only egg from her mother to survive the attack. A Skybax rider brought 26's egg to the hatchery.

Plot[]

Dinotopia (miniseries)[]

26's egg is assigned to Karl's care, at the Hatchery in Vidabba, and she is expected to become his Saurian Life Partner upon hatching. She is named after her egg number, as Karl initially resents his responsibilities to the point of not giving much thought to a name. 26 is as adventurous as Karl and swiftly grows attached to him. When Karl tries to leave Dinotopia, she throws herself into the sea trying to catch up to him. Karl gives up on his chance to escape, as his boat is already sinking, to rescue her. From that point on, he embraces his responsibilities and cares for 26 as a father might for his daughter.

Karl brings 26 with him when he attends his brother, David's graduation ceremony in Canyon City. She is briefly taken away from Karl when he and his brother are accused of treason, but they are reunited after the Scotts save Dinotopia by rediscovering the source of the sunstones. Karl's father, Frank Scott, who has been living in the World Beneath and is still getting used to dinosaurs, is introduced to her at the same time he meets Mayor Waldo.[1]

Dinotopia (TV series)[]

Karl and 26's bound grows stronger to the point they're inseparable. Even though Karl is always looking for ways to leave Dinotopia, he still cares deeply for 26, specially in the episode "Night of the Wartosa", when he's out on a date with Marion and brings 26 along with them. He realizes he was way too focused on making things right with Marion that he had forgotten that 26 was there, and becomes worried about her whereabouts. They look for her feeling sick after eating a poisonous plant. Karl takes her home in order to take care of her so she can heal.

On the episode "The Cure Part 1", 26 is concerned about Karl's health after being bitten by a mosquito, and joins David and Le Sage's quest to find a cure for him in the Outside World. On "The Cure Part 2", Le Sage attempts to make profit of 26 by selling her to a museum staff, although 26 begins to feel sick as her body is not used to the polluted air of the modern world. David and Le Sage rescues her, and return to Dinotopia, curing Karl.[2]

Dinotopia: Quest for the Ruby Sunstone[]

In the reality of the animated movie, 26 is the saurian life partner of John instead of Karl Scott, and lives at his Hatchery, together with his daughter, Mara. 26 and Shanise find Kex Bradley on the beach when he washes up after falling overboard.

John puts 26 in charge as he leaves to attend an emergency meeting in Waterfall City.[3]
